Suggested Use
Lamictal is used for:
- Epilepsy: It treats partial-onset seizures, primary generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and seizures associated with Lennox-Gastaut syndrome in adults and children.
- Bipolar Disorder: It helps delay mood episodes in adults with bipolar disorder.
Dosage:
The dosage of Lamictal varies based on the condition being treated and the patient’s age:
- Epilepsy: The target dose is 200 mg/day, but it can range from 100 mg/day to 400 mg/day depending on other medications being taken.
- Bipolar Disorder: The dosage is typically adjusted based on the patient’s response and other medications.
Warning
- Lamictal can cause severe skin reactions, including Stevens-Johnson syndrome.
- Some people may experience suicidal thoughts while taking Lamictal.
- Taking Lamictal during early pregnancy can increase the risk of birth defects.
- Do not take Lamictal if you are allergic to lamotrigine.
