Suggested Use
Clopidogrel is indicated for:
- Prevention of Atherothrombotic Events: It is used in patients with a history of myocardial infarction (heart attack), stroke, or established peripheral arterial disease to reduce the risk of future cardiovascular events
- Combination Therapy: Often prescribed with aspirin for enhanced antiplatelet effects in certain patients at risk for vascular events
Dosage:
- The standard dosage for adults is one tablet (75 mg) taken orally once daily. It can be taken with or without food.
- For specific populations (e.g., those with particular risk factors or conditions), the prescribing physician may adjust the dose accordingly.

- Avoid in patients with hypersensitivity to Clopidogrel or any excipients in the formulation.
- Bleeding Risk:
- Increased risk of bleeding. Use cautiously in patients with a history of gastrointestinal (GI) bleeding or ulcers.
- Discontinue 5-7 days prior to elective surgery.
- Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP): Rare but severe condition; seek immediate medical attention if signs (e.g., purpura, neurological symptoms, renal dysfunction) occur.
- Drug Interactions:
- Avoid concomitant use with omeprazole or esomeprazole as they may reduce Clopidogrel’s efficacy.
- Use with caution alongside anticoagulants or other antiplatelet drugs.
- Pregnancy and Lactation: Use only if clearly needed and after evaluating the risk-to-benefit ratio.
