Avaxim 160 Ad Syr 0.5ml is a vaccine that helps protect against hepatitis A infection. Suggested Use
Avaxim 160 Ad Syr 0.5ml protects against hepatitis A in adults and adolescents aged 16 years and older. It is also recommended for those traveling to areas where hepatitis A is common, those at risk due to their job, or those who may come into contact with the virus.
The vaccine is given as a single 0.5 ml dose in the muscle, with a booster shot of the same dose recommended 6 to 12 months later for long-lasting protection.
If needed, the booster can be given up to 36 months after the initial dose. The vaccine should only be injected into the deltoid muscle, not into a vein, under the skin, or into the skin.
Warning
- Avaxim 160 should not be given to those allergic to any part of the vaccine, including neomycin.
- Severe fever should delay vaccination, but minor infections without fever are okay.
- Those with weakened immune systems may not respond well and need close monitoring.
- Limited data on pregnant and breastfeeding women means it should only be used when necessary and after careful consideration.
