Suggested Use
Uses:
- Epilepsy: Epilim is used to control various types of seizures, including generalized tonic-clonic seizures, absence seizures, and partial seizures, in adults and children.
- Bipolar Disorder: It is used to treat mania associated with bipolar disorder, helping to stabilize mood and prevent extreme mood swings.
- Migraine Prophylaxis (off-label): Occasionally prescribed to prevent migraines.

Warning
- Regular monitoring of liver function is required, especially during the first six months of treatment, as sodium valproate can cause liver damage.
- Epilim is contraindicated during pregnancy unless no alternative treatment is available, as it can cause serious birth defects. Women of childbearing age should use effective contraception during treatment.
- This medication can cause inflammation of the pancreas, which can be fatal. Seek immediate medical attention if abdominal pain, nausea, or vomiting occurs.
- Caution is needed in patients with kidney problems.
- Like other anticonvulsants, Epilim may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behaviour.
- Use in children under 3 years of age is contraindicated due to the increased risk of liver toxicity.
