Coempaken 5/1000mg Tablets contain two active ingredients to help manage type 2 diabetes. This combination works to control blood sugar levels in adults and lowers the chance of complications when paired with diet and exercise.Coempaken simplifies treatment regimens, potentially enhancing patient adherence and clinical outcomes. Active Substances: Empagliflozin 5mg and Metformin Hydrochloride 1000mg per tablet.

Suggested Use

Coempaken is primarily used for:

  1. Managing high blood sugar levels in adults with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.
  2. Reducing the risk of cardiovascular events in patients with T2DM who also have existing heart disease.
  3. Supporting weight loss and improving renal function in diabetic patients.

 

Dosage:

The recommended dosage of Coempaken varies based on individual glycemic control needs and prior Metformin use. Typically, it is prescribed as:

  • 1 tablet taken twice daily (BID) with meals to minimize gastrointestinal side effects.
  • Dosage adjustments may be necessary depending on the patient’s response and tolerance to the medication

Warning

  1. Renal Impairment: Monitor kidney function regularly due to the risk of lactic acidosis and reduced efficacy.
  2. Lactic Acidosis: A rare but serious condition associated with Metformin. Symptoms include malaise, myalgia, respiratory distress, and abdominal discomfort. Discontinue immediately if suspected.
  3. Volume Depletion: Risk of hypotension; ensure adequate hydration, especially in elderly patients or those on diuretics.
  4. Hypoglycemia: When combined with insulin or sulfonylureas, the risk of low blood sugar increases.
  5. Genital Infections: Empagliflozin may increase the risk of urinary tract infections and genital mycotic infections.
  6. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation due to limited data.
  7. Alcohol Use: Avoid excessive alcohol consumption as it increases the risk of lactic acidosis.

Side Effects:

  • Common: Nausea, diarrhoea, urinary tract infections, and increased urination.
  • Rare: Severe hypoglycemia (in combination therapy), lactic acidosis, and ketoacidosis.
