Suggested Use
Crestor is used to:
- Reduce LDL cholesterol (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides.
- Increase HDL cholesterol (good cholesterol).
- Slow the progression of atherosclerosis.
- Reduce the risk of major cardiovascular events in adults with high cholesterol levels.
Dosage:
Adults:
- Initial dose: 5mg or 10mg once daily, depending on cholesterol levels and cardiovascular risk.
- Maintenance dose: 5mg to 20mg once daily.
- Maximum dose: 40mg once daily (reserved for patients with severe hypercholesterolemia and high cardiovascular risk).
Children (6 to 17 years):
- Dose based on weight and clinical response. Consult a pediatric specialist.
Administration:
- Take once daily, with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Warning
- Skeletal Muscle Effects: Cases of myopathy and rhabdomyolysis with acute renal failure have been reported.
- Crestor is contraindicated in women who are or may become pregnant.
- Caution with cyclosporine and other medications.
- Regular monitoring of liver function is recommended.
