Acetazolamide is indicated for the treatment of:
- Glaucoma: Reduces intraocular pressure by decreasing aqueous humor secretion.
- Edema: Alleviates fluid retention associated with heart failure or medications.
- Epilepsy: Used as an adjunct therapy for certain types of seizures.
- Altitude Sickness: Helps prevent or treat symptoms related to high altitude exposure
Dosage:
- Typical Dosage: The usual dose for adults varies based on the condition being treated:
- For glaucoma: 250 mg to 1000 mg daily in divided doses.
- For epilepsy: 250 mg to 500 mg daily in divided doses.
- For oedema: Initial doses may be higher, adjusted based on response and tolerance.
