Suggested Use
Symbicort is indicated for:
- Asthma: To control and prevent symptoms in patients aged 12 years and older, particularly when other long-term asthma medications are insufficient.
- COPD: For the maintenance treatment of airflow obstruction in adults, including chronic bronchitis and emphysema.
Dosage:
- For Asthma:
- Adults and adolescents (12 years and older): 2 inhalations twice daily.
- The starting dosage may vary based on the severity of asthma.
- For COPD:
- Adults (18 years and older): 2 inhalations twice daily
Warning
- Not for initial asthma management: Symbicort is not intended for the initial management of asthma.
- Regular reassessment: Patients should be regularly reassessed by their healthcare provider to ensure the dosage remains optimal.
- Rapid-acting bronchodilator: Patients should have a separate rapid-acting bronchodilator available for rescue use at all times.
- Possible side effects: Include throat irritation, hoarseness, and candidiasis (oral thrush). It is recommended to rinse the mouth with water after each inhalation to reduce the risk of these side effects.
