Why You'll Love It

Augmentin is prescribed for the short-term treatment of bacterial infections in various parts of the body when there is suspicion of amoxicillin-resistant beta-lactamase producing strains as the cause. These infections may include upper respiratory tract infections such as recurrent tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is also effective for lower respiratory tract infections like acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis, lobar and bronchopneumonia. Additionally, it can be used for urinary tract infections such as cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis. Furthermore, it is suitable for skin and soft tissue infections like cellulitis and animal bites, as well as dental infections such as severe dental abscess with spreading cellulitis. The dosage of Augmentin depends on factors such as the patient’s age, weight, renal function, and the severity of the infection. For mild to moderate infections, the usual recommended daily dosage is 25/3.6 to 45/6.4 mg/kg/day, divided into two doses. In adults and children weighing 40 kg or more, this formulation provides a total daily dose of 1750 mg amoxicillin/250 mg clavulanic acid, with twice-daily dosing. It is important to note that treatment should not exceed 14 days without a review.
