Aquacel Extra is a special type of wound dressing that is used for wounds that produce a lot of fluid. It is made with a stronger and more absorbent material than regular Aquacel dressings. When it comes into contact with the fluid from the wound, it turns into a gel that helps the wound heal faster and reduces the chance of infection. The main ingredient in Aquacel Extra is Sodium Carboxymethylcellulose, which is designed to absorb a lot of fluid while keeping the wound moist for healing.
Wound Dressing
Why You'll Love It
Aquacel Extra is used for wounds that have a moderate to heavy amount of fluid, including chronic wounds like pressure ulcers, leg ulcers, and diabetic foot ulcers. It can also be used for acute wounds such as surgical wounds, trauma wounds, and donor sites, as well as partial-thickness burns and infected wounds. Before applying the dressing, clean the wound area with a suitable cleanser or saline solution and make sure the surrounding skin is dry. Choose a dressing that is the right size to cover the entire wound area and extend at least 1-2 cm beyond the edges of the wound. Apply the dressing directly to the wound bed, and if needed, cut it to fit the shape and size of the wound. Secure the dressing in place with a secondary dressing like a bandage or adhesive tape. For wounds that have a lot of fluid, you may need additional padding to absorb the excess fluid. Change the dressing when it is saturated with fluid or as advised by a healthcare professional. The dressing can be left on for up to 7 days, depending on the amount of fluid and the condition of the wound.

Warning
If the patient shows signs of an allergic reaction to the dressing material, stop using it. If there are signs of infection (increased redness, warmth, swelling, or unusual odor), consult a healthcare professional. Aquacel Extra can be used on infected wounds under medical supervision. Always use a secondary dressing to secure Aquacel Extra and manage the exudate. In wounds with little or no exudate, the dressing may stick to the wound bed. Use sterile saline to moisten the dressing for easy removal. Avoid using oil-based products like petrolatum as they can reduce the effectiveness of the dressing. The product is sterile unless the package is damaged or opened. Do not use if the package is compromised. Aquacel Extra is for single-use only. Do not reuse or re-sterilize. For personalized wound care guidance, consult with a healthcare professional.
