Inoserp Pan African Antivenom is indicated for:
- Management of snakebite envenomation: It effectively neutralizes the effects of venom from a variety of snakes, including those causing haemorrhagic, cytotoxic, and neurotoxic syndromes, including but not limited to:
- Puff adders (Bitis arietans)
- Gaboon vipers (Bitis gabonica)
- Black mambas (Dendroaspis polylepis)
- Green mambas (Dendroaspis angusticeps)
- Cobras (Naja species)
- Spitting cobras (Hemachatus haemachatus)
- Saw-scaled vipers (Echis ocellatus)
2. Emergency treatment: Administered in hospital settings to patients presenting with symptoms of snake envenomation.
Dosage:
The typical dosage varies based on the severity of envenomation:
- Initial Dose: 2 to 4 vials administered intravenously.
- Re-dosing: Additional doses may be given every 2 hours if symptoms persist or worsen, particularly in cases of bleeding or neurotoxic signs.
Warning
- Allergic Reactions: As with any antivenom, there is a risk of allergic reactions, including anaphylaxis. Medical supervision is crucial during administration.
- Adverse Events: Mild to moderate adverse events such as sweating, nausea, rashes, and modest decrease in blood pressure may occur.
