Proguanil Tablets 100mg prevent malaria by inhibiting the reproduction of the parasites Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax in red blood cells. The active ingredient is Proguanil Hydrochloride 100mg.
Anti-Malarials
Suggested Use
Proguanil Tablets 100mg are used to:
- Prevent malaria in areas where malaria is common.
- Treat acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum.
Dosage:
- Adults: 1 tablet (100mg) daily, taken with water, after food, at the same time each day.
- Children: Dosage varies by age:
- Under 1 year: 1/4 tablet (25mg) daily.
- 1-4 years: 1/2 tablet (50mg) daily.
- 5-8 years: 1 tablet (100mg) daily.
- 9-14 years: 1 1/2 tablets (150mg) daily.
- Over 14 years: Adult dose.
Warning
- Avoid use if allergic to proguanil or any other component of the tablet.
- Use with caution in patients with renal insufficiency.
- Should be used during pregnancy or breastfeeding only if the potential benefits outweigh the risks.
- Inform your doctor about any other medications or supplements being taken to avoid interactions.
- Common side effects include nausea, diarrhoea, mouth ulcers, and abdominal discomfort. Seek medical attention if severe reactions occur.
- Resistance: Should always be used in combination with other antimalarial agents to prevent resistance development.
