Duo Cotecxin is effective in treating uncomplicated malaria. It is effective against Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax, particularly when other treatments face resistance. Active Substances: Dihydroartemisinin 40mg and Piperaquine 320mg per tablet.

Suggested Use
Duo Cotecxin is indicated for:
- Treatment of uncomplicated malaria due to Plasmodium falciparum.
- Treatment of uncomplicated malaria due to other Plasmodium species when chloroquine cannot be used.
- Completion of treatment following parenteral therapy for severe malaria.
Dosage:
The recommended dosage for adults is as follows:
- Adults: Take 2 tablets once daily for 3 consecutive days.
- The dosage may vary based on the weight of the patient or the severity of the infection. Always follow the prescription provided by a healthcare professional.
Method of Administration:
- Take the tablets with water, preferably after a meal, to improve absorption and reduce gastrointestinal side effects.
- Ensure all doses are completed, even if symptoms resolve before finishing the treatment.
Warning
- Contraindications: Do not use in individuals with cardiac disorders (e.g., bradycardia, heart rhythm disorders, congestive heart failure) or those taking medications that prolong the QT interval (e.g., amiodarone, certain antipsychotics).
- Caution: Use with caution in patients over 60 years or those with renal or hepatic impairment.
- Adverse Effects: Potential side effects include cardiac disorders (QT prolongation, tachycardia), gastrointestinal disturbances, pruritus, hepatic disorders, and musculoskeletal pain.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: No known contraindications for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Additional Considerations
- If vomiting occurs within 30 minutes of administration, the full dose should be re-administered. If vomiting occurs between 30 minutes and one hour after taking the medication, half the dose should be given again.
- Store below 25 °C and keep out of reach of children.
