Proguanil Tablets 100mg are used as an antimalarial medication to prevent and treat malaria. Active Substances: Proguanil hydrochloride (100mg per tablet)

Suggested Use

Proguanil is primarily used for:

  1. Prophylaxis of malaria: Prevents malaria in individuals travelling to areas where malaria is common.
  2. Treatment of malaria: Used in combination with other medications to treat acute, uncomplicated malaria caused by Plasmodium falciparum.
Dosage:
  • For adults: 1 tablet (100mg) daily.
  • For children: Dosage varies by age:
    • Under 1 year: 1/4 tablet (25mg) daily
    • 1-4 years: 1/2 tablet (50mg) daily
    • 5-8 years: 1 tablet (100mg) daily
    • 9-14 years: 1 1/2 tablets (150mg) daily
    • Over 14 years: 1 tablet (100mg) daily

Warning

  • Avoid if you are allergic to proguanil or any of the excipients.
  • Caution is advised in patients with severe renal impairment.
  • Antacids may reduce the absorption of proguanil. Take antacids at least 2-3 hours apart from proguanil.
  • Stop taking Proguanil 3 days before and do not start until 3 days after receiving live oral typhoid vaccination.
  • Consult a doctor before use if pregnant or nursing.
