Cosatrim DS Tablets 960mg is a combination of two antibiotics, sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim, used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. Active Substances: Sulfamethoxazole 800 mg and Trimethoprim 160 mg per tablet.

Suggested Use
Cosatrim DS Tablets 960mg is used for the treatment of:
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Respiratory infections, including bronchitis and pneumonia
- Gastrointestinal infections, including shigellosis and traveler’s diarrhoea.
- Skin and soft tissue infections.
- Prevention and treatment of Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia (PJP)
- Otitis media in children
- Nocardiosis
Dosage:
Adults and children aged 12 years and older:
- Standard dosage: 1 tablet twice daily, taken every 12 hours.
- Severe infections: The dosage may be increased based on the severity of the infection.
Children aged 6-12 years:
- Dosage is based on body weight, typically half the adult dose (consult a healthcare professional).
Special populations:
- Dosage adjustments may be necessary for elderly patients or those with renal impairment.
Administration:
- Take the tablets with a full glass of water, preferably after meals to reduce stomach irritation.
- Complete the full course of treatment even if symptoms improve.
Warning
- Allergic Reactions: Avoid use in patients with a known allergy to sulfonamides or trimethoprim.
- Severe Skin Reactions: Rare cases of Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis have been reported.
- Kidney or Liver Disease: Use with caution in patients with impaired renal or hepatic function. Regular monitoring of kidney function is recommended.
- Hematological Effects: May cause blood disorders like anemia or leukopenia. Regular blood tests may be needed during prolonged use.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Not recommended during pregnancy (especially in the first trimester) or while breastfeeding unless clearly needed.
- Drug Interactions:
- May enhance the effects of anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin).
- Increases the risk of hyperkalemia when used with potassium-sparing diuretics or ACE inhibitors.
- Photosensitivity: Can increase sensitivity to sunlight; avoid excessive sun exposure and use sunscreen.
Side Effects:
- Common: Nausea, vomiting, rash.
- Serious: Severe skin reactions, liver dysfunction, or blood disorders.
