Atorvastatin 20mg Tablets help lower “bad” cholesterol (LDL) by blocking the enzyme that makes cholesterol in the liver. They also raise “good” cholesterol (HDL). This can help reduce the risk of heart disease, chest pain, strokes, and heart attacks. Active Substance: Atorvastatin Calcium 20mg per tablet.

Atorvastatin is indicated for:
- Lowering total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol levels.
- Increasing HDL cholesterol levels.
- Reducing triglycerides in the blood.
- Preventing cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes in individuals with existing heart disease or those at high risk
Dosage:
The typical dosage for Atorvastatin varies based on individual patient needs, but generally starts at 10 mg to 80 mg once daily. Taken orally, with or without food. Regular blood tests are recommended to monitor cholesterol levels and liver function during treatment.
Warning
- Liver Function: Periodic liver function tests are recommended. Atorvastatin is contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes.
- Muscle Effects: Monitor for myopathy or rhabdomyolysis, especially when used with other lipid-lowering drugs or in predisposed individuals.
- Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Atorvastatin is contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Effective contraception should be used during treatment.
- Drug Interactions: Use caution with medications like ciclosporin, clarithromycin, and antifungals that can increase atorvastatin levels.
- Alcohol: Limit alcohol consumption to avoid additional strain on the liver.
- Diabetes: May increase blood glucose levels. Monitor in patients with or at risk of diabetes.
Side Effects
Common side effects include headache, nausea, diarrhoea, and muscle aches. Rare but serious side effects include severe muscle pain, dark-coloured urine, and jaundice, which require immediate medical attention.
