Artefan 80/480 Tablets are a combination medication used in the treatment of malaria. This combination helps in effectively treating both uncomplicated falciparum malaria and multidrug-resistant strains of Plasmodium falciparum. Artefan works by inhibiting the growth of the malaria parasites within the blood. Active Substances: Artemether 80 mg and Lumefantrine 480 mg per tablet.

Suggested Use

Artefan 80/480 Tablets are indicated for:

  1. The treatment of uncomplicated Plasmodium falciparum malaria in adults and children.
  2. The management of malaria infections caused by multidrug-resistant strains.

Dosage

Adults and children weighing above 35 kg: One tablet twice a day for three days (total six doses). The first dose should be followed by a second dose after 8 hours, and then doses should be taken twice daily (morning and evening) for the next two days1.

 Patients with hepatic or renal impairment: No specific dose adjustments are needed for mild or moderate impairment.

Warning

  • Artefan 80/480 Tablets are not approved for patients with severe or complicated falciparum malaria.
  • These tablets are not intended for the prevention of malaria.
  •  It is recommended to take the tablets with food to improve absorption.
  • If vomiting occurs within 1 to 2 hours after administration, a repeat dose should be taken. If vomiting persists, an alternative antimalarial should be considered.
  • For children who cannot swallow tablets, the tablets may be crushed and mixed with a small amount of water or semi-solid food.
