Typhim Vi is a sterile injection that protects against typhoid fever, caused by Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi. It is administered intramuscularly and is suitable for adults and children aged 2 and older.Active Substances: Purified Vi capsular polysaccharide of Salmonella typhi (Ty2 strain) – 25 micrograms.

- Typhim Vi is indicated for active immunization against typhoid fever caused by Salmonella typhi.
- Recommended for:
- Travelers to endemic areas.
- Laboratory workers handling Salmonella typhi.
- Individuals at increased risk due to local outbreaks.
Dosage
- Adults and Children (2 years and older):
- A single 0.5 ml dose administered via intramuscular or subcutaneous injection.
- Booster Dose:
- A booster is recommended every 2 to 3 years for continued protection if the risk of exposure persists.
Warning
- Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine.
- Severe febrile illness or acute infection (postpone vaccination).
- Precautions:
- Not for use in children under 2 years, as effectiveness is not established.
- Does not protect against other species of Salmonella or non-typhoidal infections.
- Ensure appropriate management is available in case of an allergic reaction post-vaccination.
- Pregnancy and Lactation:
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed.
- Caution should be exercised in nursing mothers.
- Possible Side Effects:
- Common: Injection site reactions (pain, redness, swelling), fever, headache, fatigue.
- Rare: Allergic reactions, including rash, urticaria, or anaphylaxis.
- Storage Instructions:
- Store in a refrigerator at 2 °C–8 °C. Do not freeze. Protect from light.
