Orelox 200mg Tablets contain Cefpodoxime Proxetil, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It is used to treat various bacterial infections by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis.

Suggested Use
Orelox is used to treat infections caused by susceptible strains of bacteria, including:
- Upper respiratory tract infections: Acute bacterial sinusitis, tonsillitis, pharyngitis, and acute maxillary sinusitis.
- Lower respiratory tract infections: Acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis and bacterial pneumonia.
- Sexually transmitted diseases: Acute uncomplicated urethral and cervical gonorrhoea.
- Uncomplicated urinary tract infections: Cystitis and pyuria.
- Skin and soft tissue infections: Furuncle, cellulitis, subcutaneous abscess, infectious atheroma, and periproctal abscess.
- Enteric fever (a potentially life-threatening bacterial infection that includes typhoid fever and paratyphoid fever)
Dosage
- Adults and adolescents with normal renal function: 200 mg twice daily.
- Elderly patients with normal renal function: No dose adjustment is necessary.
- Children: Dosage is based on body weight (8-10 mg/kg daily in 2 divided doses, up to a maximum of 200 mg daily).
- Patients with renal impairment: Dosage adjustment is required based on creatinine clearance.
- Haemodialysis patients: Administer after each dialysis session.
Warning
- Do not use if allergic to cefpodoxime, other cephalosporins, or penicillin.
- Renal impairment: Dosage adjustment is necessary.
- Gastrointestinal disturbances: Common side effects include diarrhoea.
- Absorption may be decreased by antacids or histamine H2-receptor antagonists
