Olmat Tabs 20mg is used to treat high blood pressure. It reduces the risk of strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. The medication works by relaxing blood vessels, which helps blood flow smoothly. The active substance is Olmesartan Medoxomil 20mg.

Anti-Hypertensives

Suggested Use

  1. Primary Use:
    • Management of essential hypertension in adults.
  2. Secondary Benefits:
    • Helps protect kidney function in hypertensive patients, especially those with type 2 diabetes.
    • Reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications linked to high blood pressure.

Dosage:
  • Usual Adult Dose:
    • Starting Dose: 20mg once daily. This may be increased to 40mg daily based on clinical response.

Take orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is close to the next dose, skip the missed dose and resume the regular schedule. Do not double doses.

 

Dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with kidney or liver impairment.

Warning

  • Contraindications:
    • Hypersensitivity to olmesartan or any of its components.
    • Pregnancy (due to risk of harm to the fetus).
  • Precautions:
    • Monitor blood pressure regularly.
    • Use with caution in patients with kidney or liver disease.
    • May cause hyperkalemia (high potassium levels). Avoid potassium supplements unless advised by a doctor.
    • Dehydration or excessive fluid loss (e.g., from severe vomiting or diarrhoea) can increase the risk of hypotension.
  • Potential Side Effects:
    • Dizziness or lightheadedness, particularly when standing up.
    • Fatigue, headache, or gastrointestinal discomfort (e.g., nausea or diarrhoea).
    • Rarely, kidney dysfunction or angioedema (swelling of face, lips, or throat).
  • Drug Interactions:
    • Use caution when taken with other antihypertensives, diuretics, or NSAIDs.
    • Avoid combining with lithium or potassium-sparing diuretics without consulting a healthcare provider.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
    • Should not be used during pregnancy. If pregnancy is detected, discontinue use immediately.
    • Consult your doctor before using while breastfeeding.
