Suggested Use
Nexium 40mg IV is indicated for:
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): Short-term treatment of erosive esophagitis in patients who cannot take oral therapy.
- Peptic Ulcers: Management of gastric and duodenal ulcers, particularly associated with NSAID use.
- Prevention of Rebleeding in Peptic Ulcers: Following endoscopic hemostasis in bleeding ulcers.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Management of pathological hypersecretory conditions.
- Stress Ulcer Prophylaxis: In critically ill patients.
Dosage and Administration
- Adults:
- GERD with Erosive Esophagitis: 40mg once daily via IV injection over 3 minutes or IV infusion over 10–30 minutes.
- Prevention of Rebleeding in Peptic Ulcers: 80mg IV bolus followed by continuous infusion of 8mg/hour for 72 hours.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: Dose adjusted based on individual response (starting at 40mg twice daily).
- Maximum daily dose: 80mg, with adjustments based on clinical need.
- Reconstitution:
- Dilute with 5ml of 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection for IV injection.
- For infusion, further dilute in 100ml of compatible IV solution (e.g., 0.9% Sodium Chloride or 5% Dextrose).
