Medopress 250mg Tablets contain methyldopa, an antihypertensive that lowers high blood pressure by reducing specific blood chemicals, helping blood vessels relax and expand.

Suggested Use

Medopress 250mg Tablets are indicated for:

  1. Treatment of essential hypertension (high blood pressure).
  2. Management of hypertension during pregnancy.

Dosage:

Adults:

  • Initial dose: 250mg two or three times daily for the first 48 hours.
  • Maintenance dose: 500mg to 2g daily in two to four divided doses.
  • Maximum dose: 3g per day.

Children:

  • Initial dose: 10mg/kg body weight daily in two to four divided doses.
  • Maintenance dose: Adjust according to response, up to a maximum of 65mg/kg or 3g daily (whichever is lower).

Pregnancy:

  • Dosage should be determined by a healthcare provider based on individual needs.

Take Medopress tablets with or without food, at the same time each day.

Warning

  1. Do not use Medopress 250mg if you:
    • Are allergic to methyldopa or any of its excipients.
    • Have active liver disease or a history of liver disorders related to methyldopa.
    • Have a history of depression.
    • Are taking monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs).
  2. Use with caution in:
    • Patients with kidney impairment (adjustment of dose may be necessary).
    • Patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases.
    • Individuals who may experience drowsiness; avoid driving or operating heavy machinery.
  3. Side effects may include:
    • Drowsiness, headache, dizziness, or weakness.
    • Rarely, liver dysfunction, fever, or jaundice.
    • Hemolytic anaemia (monitor blood counts regularly).
  4. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding:
    • Methyldopa is commonly used during pregnancy for managing hypertension; however, consult a healthcare provider before use.
    • It is excreted in breast milk in small amounts, so discuss risks and benefits with your doctor.
  5. Drug Interactions:
    • Avoid combining with MAOIs, other antihypertensives, or iron supplements without medical advice.
