Suggested Use
- Used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes when used alongside a proper diet and exercise program.
- It can be used in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents such as metformin, sulfonylureas, or thiazolidinediones.
Dosage:
- Adults: The typical dose is 5mg once daily, taken with or without food. It’s important to take it at the same time each day.
- Adjustments: Dosage may be adjusted based on individual response and tolerability.
Warning
- Do not use if you are allergic to saxagliptin or any other ingredients.
- Inform your doctor if you have a history of pancreatitis.
- Use with caution if you have heart failure.
- Dosage adjustments may be needed for those with moderate to severe kidney problems.
- Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Limit alcohol intake as it can increase the risk of low blood sugar levels.
Side Effects:
- Common: Headache, upper respiratory tract infections (e.g., sore throat, cough), urinary tract infections, and peripheral oedema.
- Serious: Hypoglycemia (especially if used with other diabetes medications), joint pain, skin reactions, and swelling or fluid retention.
