Kefrox 500mg is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat various bacterial infections, including those in the respiratory system, skin, and urinary tract. Its active ingredient is cefuroxime 500mg.

Suggested Use
Kefrox 500mg is used to treat various bacterial infections, including:
- Pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
- Acute bacterial otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, or Moraxella catarrhalis
- Acute bacterial maxillary sinusitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae
- Lower respiratory tract infections, including pneumonia, caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Klebsiella spp., Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Escherichia coli
- Acute bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis
- Secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis
Dosage:
The recommended dosage for Kefrox 500mg is one tablet taken twice daily, typically for a duration of 7 to 10 days, depending on the severity of the infection. It is crucial to follow the full course of treatment to prevent bacterial resistance and ensure complete recovery.
Warning
- If you are allergic to cefuroxime or other cephalosporins, do not take this medication. Allergic reactions can be serious and, in some cases, fatal.
- Use of high doses or prolonged use of cefuroxime can lead to diarrhoea caused by Clostridioides difficile. This can range from mild to severe and, in rare cases, can be fatal.
- Inform your doctor about all medications you are taking, as cefuroxime can interact with other drugs.
- Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding.
- Common side effects include diarrhoea, nausea, vomiting, and Jarisch-Herxheimer reaction. Serious side effects may include allergic reactions, severe diarrhoea, and liver or kidney problems
