Suggested Use
Fenofibrate 200mg Capsules are primarily used to:
- Lower high cholesterol and triglyceride levels (hyperlipidemia).
- Reduce the risk of pancreatitis in patients with severely high triglycerides.
- Help prevent cardiovascular issues by managing lipid levels, especially in cases where lifestyle changes alone are insufficient.
Usual adult dose: 200 mg taken once daily, with or after a meal to improve absorption. Dosage duration should be determined by a healthcare provider based on individual patient needs and response to treatment.
Patients with kidney or liver impairment may require dose adjustments. This should be managed by a healthcare professional.
Warning
- Regular monitoring of liver enzymes is recommended, as fenofibrate may cause liver-related side effects.
- Patients with renal impairment should use this medication cautiously, and regular kidney function tests may be required.
- The risk of muscle problems (myopathy, rhabdomyolysis) increases, especially when combined with statins. Report any unusual muscle pain or weakness.
- Not suitable for those allergic to fenofibrate or other fibrates.
- Not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women unless advised by a healthcare provider.
- May interact with blood thinners (e.g., warfarin) and other lipid-lowering medications. Inform your doctor of all medications you are currently taking.
- Common side effects may include abdominal pain, headache, back pain, and elevated liver enzymes.
- Rare but serious effects include muscle pain, yellowing of the skin/eyes (jaundice), and severe abdominal pain. Seek medical attention if any severe reactions occur.
