Engerix B 10mcg (Paediatric) vaccine protects children against hepatitis B infection. Intended for children and adolescents up to 15 years of age, it provides effective immunization against hepatitis B virus (HBV), which can cause serious liver diseases. Active Substance: Hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg): 10 micrograms per dose.

Suggested Use
Engerix B is indicated for active immunization against hepatitis B infection in:
- Newborns and children up to 15 years of age.
- Children born to mothers who are carriers of HBV.
- Individuals at increased risk of HBV exposure, such as those living in areas of high HBV prevalence.
Dosage and Administration:
- Dosage: Each dose contains 10 micrograms of HBsAg for paediatric use.
- Vaccination Schedule:
- Standard Schedule: 3 doses at 0, 1, and 6 months.
- Accelerated Schedule: 3 doses at 0, 1, and 2 months, with a booster dose at 12 months.
- Neonates Born to HBV-Positive Mothers: Administer the first dose within 12 hours of birth. Follow up with additional doses according to the standard or accelerated schedule.
Warning
- Allergy: Do not administer to individuals with a known hypersensitivity to any component of the vaccine.
- Acute Illness: Vaccination should be postponed in children with severe febrile illness or active infection.
- Immune Response: The vaccine may not elicit a full protective immune response in individuals with compromised immune systems (e.g., due to HIV infection or immunosuppressive therapy).
- Syncope Risk: Monitor for signs of fainting after vaccination, especially in adolescents.
- Storage: Store in a refrigerator (2 °C–8 °C). Do not freeze. Protect from light.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include:
- Local reactions at the injection site (pain, redness, or swelling).
- Fever, fatigue, headache, or irritability.
- Nausea, vomiting, or diarrhoea (rare).
In case of severe allergic reactions (e.g., difficulty breathing, swelling of the face), seek immediate medical attention.
