Asomex 2.5mg Tablets are used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and angina pectoris (chest pain due to insufficient blood flow to the heart). By relaxing blood vessels, Asomex helps blood flow more easily, reducing the heart’s workload and lowering blood pressure.  Active Substances: S-Amlodipine 2.5mg per tablet.

Suggested Use

Asomex 2.5mg Tablets are prescribed for:

  1. Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Helps lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart attack and stroke.
  2. Angina Pectoris: Relieves chest pain by improving blood flow to the heart.
  3. Prevention of Heart Attack: Reduces the risk of heart attack by making it easier for the heart to pump blood.
  4. Prevention of Stroke: Lowers blood pressure to reduce the risk of stroke.
Dosage:
  • Usual Adult Dose:
    Start with 2.5 mg once daily. Based on patient response, the dose may be increased to 5 mg once daily.
  • Maximum Dose: 10 mg per day.
  • Paediatric Dose (6–17 years):
    2.5 mg to 5 mg once daily.

Take the tablet at the same time each day, with or without food. Swallow it whole with water.

Warning

  1.  Avoid use if allergic to amlodipine or other calcium channel blockers.
  2.  Monitor blood pressure regularly.
  3.  Use cautiously in patients with severe aortic stenosis or heart failure.
  4. Liver Impairment: Dosage adjustments may be required.
  5. Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Consult a doctor before use.
  6.  Avoid driving or operating heavy machinery until you know how the medication affects you.
  7.  Inform your doctor about any other medications, including over-the-counter drugs, as some may interact with amlodipine (e.g., simvastatin, antifungals, or other blood pressure medications).

Side Effects:

Common side effects include:

  • Dizziness or lightheadedness
  • Swelling of the ankles or feet (oedema)
  • Fatigue
  • Flushing

Rare but serious side effects:

  • Severe chest pain
  • Irregular heartbeat
  • Fainting
