In such cases, hospital treatment with intravenous antimalarials is necessary. Patients with existing heart conditions or those taking medications that prolong the QT interval should use Coartem cautiously due to the risk of QT interval prolongation. It is important for patients to disclose all medications they are taking, as Coartem can interact with various drugs such as antiretroviral, antibiotics, and anticonvulsants. The use of Coartem during the first trimester of pregnancy is not advised unless there are no other options available. Additionally, caution should be exercised when using Coartem while breastfeeding. Patients with liver or kidney issues should use Coartem carefully and under medical supervision. Common side effects may include headache, dizziness, weakness, fever, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Serious side effects may include signs of an allergic reaction, irregular heartbeat, severe headache, vision changes, confusion, or seizures.
