Kombiglyze XR 5/1000 is a medicine for treating type 2 diabetes. It contains two ingredients: Saxagliptin (5mg) and Metformin Hydrochloride (1000mg). This combination helps control blood sugar levels better, especially when diet and exercise are not enough.
Anti-Diabetics
Suggested Use
Kombiglyze XR is used as an adjunct to diet and exercise to improve glycemic control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is not indicated for the treatment of type 1 diabetes or diabetic ketoacidosis.
Dosage:
- Starting Dose: For patients not currently on metformin, start with 5 mg saxagliptin/500 mg metformin extended-release once daily with the evening meal. Gradually increase the dose to minimize gastrointestinal side effects from metformin.
- For Patients Already on Metformin: Match the metformin dose currently being taken or the closest appropriate dose.
- Maximum Daily Dosage: 5 mg saxagliptin and 2000 mg metformin extended-release.
- Administration: Swallow tablets whole; do not crush, cut, or chew.
Warning
- Lactic Acidosis: Risk increases with conditions such as sepsis, dehydration, excess alcohol intake, hepatic impairment, renal impairment, and acute congestive heart failure.
- Monitor for signs and symptoms of pancreatitis.
- Discontinue if serious hypersensitivity reactions occur.
- Assess renal function before initiating and periodically during treatment.
- Contraindications: Severe renal impairment, metabolic acidosis, and hypersensitivity to any of the components
