Precautions: Caution in renal impairment, pregnancy.
Indications/Uses: Herpes simplex 200mg 5 times a day for 5 days. varicella and herpes zoster 800 mg 5 times a day for 7 days, with or without food. topical, ophthalmic, iv formulation available.
Interactions: Increased toxicity with nephrotoxic drugs. probenecid may decrease elimination.
Side Effects: Nausea, vomiting. dizziness. anorexia. fatigue. skin rash. sore throat.
