Inflammatory Bowel Disease

Suggested Use

Salazopyrin EN is primarily used for:

  1. Management of Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Ulcerative Colitis: Controls flare-ups and maintains remission.Crohn’s Disease: Treats active disease episodes.
  2. Rheumatoid Arthritis: Used when other non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are ineffective.
Dosage:
  • For Ulcerative Colitis:
    • Severe Flare-Ups: 2-4 tablets four times daily.
    • Mild/Moderate Flare-Ups: Same dosage as severe but may not require additional medications.
    • Maintenance Dose: After controlling a flare-up, the dose is gradually reduced to about 4 tablets daily.
  • For Rheumatoid Arthritis:
    • The initial dosage typically starts at one tablet twice daily, increasing gradually to a maximum of 3 g/day, divided into two or three doses.

Note: Tablets should be taken whole with water and not crushed or chewed.

Warning

  • Do not use if allergic to sulfasalazine or any component of the formulation.
  • Caution is advised for patients with pre-existing blood disorders, liver issues, or gastrointestinal obstructions.
  • Regular monitoring of blood counts is recommended due to potential haematological side effects.
