Fosamax 70 mg Tablets are an oral medication used to treat and prevent osteoporosis in postmenopausal women and to treat osteoporosis in men. It contains alendronate sodium, a bisphosphonate that works by inhibiting bone resorption, leading to an increase in bone mass and a reduction in the risk of fractures.

Suggested Use
Fosamax 70 mg Tablets are used in:
- Treatment and prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women.
- Treatment of osteoporosis in men.
- Treatment of Paget’s disease of bone.
- Reduction of the risk of hip and spine fractures in patients with osteoporosis.
Recommended Dosage: Take one 70 mg tablet orally once a week, preferably on the same day each week. The tablet should be taken in the morning, at least 30 minutes before the first food, beverage, or medication of the day. Patients should remain upright for at least 30 minutes after taking the tablet to minimize the risk of oesophagal irritation.
Warning
- Fosamax should not be used in patients with oesophagal abnormalities, hypocalcemia (low calcium levels), or hypersensitivity to alendronate or any of its components.
- There is a risk of gastrointestinal adverse reactions, including oesophagal ulcers or erosions. Patients should report any difficulty swallowing, chest pain, or new or worsening heartburn.
- Caution is advised in patients with renal impairment; dosage adjustments may be necessary.
- Some patients may experience atypical femur fractures or osteonecrosis of the jaw. Patients should be advised to seek medical attention for new thigh, hip, or groin pain.
- Adequate intake of calcium and vitamin D is recommended while on treatment.
- Fosamax is not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding due to potential risks.
