Esofag 40mg Tablets contain the active ingredient Esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that works by reducing the amount of acid produced in the stomach. They are intended for both short-term and long-term management of acid reflux conditions.

Suggested Use
Esofag 40mg Tablets are used to treat the following conditions:
- Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD): To reduce acid reflux symptoms such as heartburn, regurgitation, and irritation of the oesophagus.
- Peptic Ulcers: To promote healing of ulcers in the stomach or duodenum and prevent their recurrence.
- Helicobacter pylori Eradication: In combination with antibiotics, for the treatment of H. pylori infections that cause ulcers.
- Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome: A condition characterized by excessive acid production in the stomach.
- Prevention of Stomach Ulcers: In patients using nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
Dosage and Directions for Use:
- For GERD:
- The usual dose is 40mg once daily for 4-8 weeks, depending on the severity of the condition.
- For Peptic Ulcers and Helicobacter pylori Eradication:
- The typical dose is 40mg once daily for 4-8 weeks, often in combination with antibiotics.
- For Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome:
- Initial doses may start at 40mg twice daily, depending on the doctor’s recommendation.
Swallow the tablets whole with a glass of water. Do not chew, crush, or break the tablets.
The tablets can be taken with or without food, but it is recommended to take them at the same time each day for consistency.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember unless it’s almost time for your next dose. Do not take two doses at the same time to make up for a missed dose.
Warning
- Prolonged use of Esomeprazole may increase the risk of bone fractures, low magnesium levels, and vitamin B12 deficiency. Regular medical checkups are advised.
- Use with caution in patients with impaired kidney function.
- Dose adjustments may be necessary for patients with liver problems.
- Seek medical attention if you experience any signs of an allergic reaction such as rash, itching, swelling, or difficulty breathing.
- Inform your doctor of all other medications you are taking, as Esomeprazole may interact with drugs such as warfarin, diazepam, and some antifungals.
- Esofag is not suitable for immediate relief of acute heartburn symptoms. It is for longer-term management.
- Consult your healthcare provider before using this medication during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
