Esofag 20mg Tablets contain esomeprazole, which is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by decreasing the acid made in the stomach. This drug is mainly used to address problems linked to high stomach acid.

Suggested Use
Esofag 20mg Tablets are used for the treatment of:
- Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): Reducing acid reflux and preventing damage to the oesophagus.
- Peptic ulcers: Healing ulcers in the stomach and duodenum.
- Helicobacter pylori eradication: In combination with antibiotics for the treatment of H. pylori infection in peptic ulcer disease.
- Zollinger-Ellison syndrome: A condition that causes excessive stomach acid production.
- Prevention of acid-related damage: Prevents acid reflux in patients taking nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs).
The dosage and duration of treatment depend on the specific condition being treated. Always follow your healthcare provider’s instructions. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew the tablet. It can be taken with or without food.
Warning
- Prolonged use of esomeprazole may increase the risk of fractures, especially in older adults. Ensure your doctor monitors your treatment.
- If you have liver disease or kidney problems, consult your doctor before using this medication.
- Long-term use of esomeprazole may lead to reduced absorption of vitamin B12. Your doctor may check your levels if you’re on prolonged therapy.
- If you experience signs of an allergic reaction (e.g., rash, swelling, difficulty breathing), seek immediate medical attention.
- Inform your doctor if you are taking other medications, especially blood thinners (warfarin), methotrexate, or other PPIs.
- Consult your doctor if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding, as esomeprazole should only be used if absolutely necessary.
- Common side effects include headache, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhoea, and flatulence. If side effects persist or worsen, seek medical advice.
