Deprozet is used to treat:
- Major depressive disorder
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD)
- Bulimia nervosa
The dosage of Deprozet differs based on the person and the condition. It’s crucial to follow your doctor’s directions precisely.
Warning
- Avoid use if there is a known allergy to fluoxetine or other SSRIs.
- Antidepressants increase the risk of suicidal thinking and behaviour in children, adolescents, and young adults with major depressive or other psychiatric disorders.
- Avoid concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping an MAOI. Interaction with MAOIs can cause serotonin syndrome, which may be life-threatening.
- Pregnancy and Lactation: Use only if necessary, as fluoxetine may pose risks during pregnancy and can pass into breast milk.
- Avoid alcohol consumption as it may increase certain side effects of fluoxetine.
- Common side effects include insomnia, nausea, fatigue, headache, and dry mouth. Rare but severe side effects may include serotonin syndrome, seizures, and abnormal bleeding.
