Dosage:
The dosage of Altacef Oral Suspension should be determined by a healthcare professional based on the patient’s age, weight, and severity of the infection. Typically, it is administered as follows:
- Children: The usual dosage is 20 mg/kg/day divided into two doses.
- Adults: The standard dosage may vary but usually starts at 250 mg to 500 mg taken twice daily.
Shake the bottle well before use and measure the dose accurately using a dosing syringe or spoon.
Warning
- Allergic Reactions
- Contraindicated in patients with a known allergy to cephalosporins or penicillins.
- Discontinue use if hypersensitivity occurs.
- Gastrointestinal Effects
- May cause diarrhoea, including Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhoea. Seek medical attention for persistent or severe symptoms.
- Renal Impairment
- Use with caution in patients with renal dysfunction; dosage adjustments may be necessary.
- Pregnancy and Lactation
- Consult a doctor before use during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
- Drug Interactions
- May interact with antacids (reduces absorption of cefuroxime).
- Probenecid may increase plasma concentrations of cefuroxime.
