Aciclovir Oral Suspension 200mg/5ml is an antiviral medication used to treat infections caused by herpes simplex virus (HSV) and varicella-zoster virus (VZV). Active Substance: Aciclovir 200mg per 5ml of suspension.

Suggested Use
Aciclovir Oral Suspension is used for:
- Treating herpes simplex virus infections of the skin and mucous membranes, including initial and recurrent genital herpes.
- Suppressing recurrent herpes simplex infections in immunocompetent patients.
- Prophylaxis of herpes simplex infections in immunocompromised patients.
- Treating herpes zoster (shingles) and varicella (chickenpox) infections.
Dosage:
The dosage varies based on the condition being treated:
- Herpes Zoster: 800mg every 4 hours, 5 times daily for 7 to 10 days.
- Initial Genital Herpes: 200mg every 4 hours, 5 times daily for 10 days.
- Chronic Suppressive Therapy for Recurrent Disease: 400mg twice daily for up to 12 months.
- Chickenpox:
- Children (2 years and older): 20mg/kg per dose orally 4 times daily for 5 days.
- Adults and children over 40kg: 800mg 4 times daily for 5 days.
Warning
- Ensure adequate hydration during high-dose regimens to minimize the risk of renal toxicity.
- Watch for signs of allergic reactions, including rash or difficulty breathing; seek immediate medical attention if these occur.
- Inform your doctor about any other medications you are taking, as interactions can occur, particularly with nephrotoxic drugs.
- Consult a healthcare provider before use if pregnant or breastfeeding.
- Common side effects may include nausea, diarrhoea, headache, and dizziness. Monitor for severe side effects such as kidney problems or neurological symptoms.
