|Mode Of Action
||Inhibiting the synthesis of thyroid hormone within the thyroid gland by serving as substrates for thyroid peroxidase. Thyroid peroxidase catalyzes the integration of oxidized iodide into tyrosine residues in thyroglobulin molecules and couples iodotyrosines.
||Hyperthyroidism; preparation for thyroidectomy
||Pregnancy and lactation; liver disorders; patients to report any sign of infection especially sore throat; incase of an infection a white blood cell count should be done.
||Rashes; GI disturbances; headache; agranulocytosis; arthralgia; alopecia
||20-60mg daily in divided dose until euthyroid state is attained. Maintenance dose: 5-15mg for 6-18 months. Children: Initially 5-15mg in divided doses.
||Category C Drugs which, owing to their pharmacological effects, or may be suspected of causing detrimental effects on human foetus or neonates without causing malfunctions. These effects may be reversible
